My 2nd Barbie Cake!!!

It was so much fun doing this cake. As the party theme color was Pink and purple the cake color was also the same. This cake was ordered for twin sisters.  

Its a vanilla base cake and colored with pink and purple. The tray sides are decorated with small balls made out of Chocolate cake....

Barbie Doll Cake!!!

Having so many family and friends that live near me, always gives an opportunity to try out new dessert ideas. This time it was my little niece birthday and her mom and masi (aunty), decided that a Barbie Doll cake would be perfect for this birthday. This was my first time making a Barbie Doll cake and I was excited to see how it would turn out. Overall I was happy with it, but there is definitely some things that I would do differently next time.

After I promised to bake a Barbie doll cake for my niece to celebrate her birthday, I was thinking that why am I inviting for trouble. Looking at the Barbie doll cakes that I surf from internet, I started to get panic, it seems to be quite complicated and challenging that I fear this is beyond my capability. But since I had promised, I have to keep my promise. Being my first attempt, I was thinking no one should be so "sharp" to spot the flaws: - P. Thus, all the self-consoling thoughts making me still went ahead for this challenging project.

 The making of Barbie doll cake was actually quite smooth, it was very time consuming but not as difficult as what I had thought of. I started baking cake at night 9:00P.M (ISD), because only at that time of the day the kitchen will be free and I can work freely, without bringing trouble to my mom and grandma. By 11:00P.M (ISD), my cake base was ready. It needed one hour to get settled (bring down to room temperature).  By that time, I prepared the Icing (Butter-Icing), which needed to be applied on the top of the Barbie cake, this took only half an hour of the time. After that, I along with two other cousin, Divya and Dharshan, were deciding how to start doing the cake, wrapped the Barbie with a plastic sheet, so that the pretty doll is not messed up and yea along with our famous mokkai’s (comedy or a joke without a laugh).

By the time we realised, the time was 1:00A.M (ISD). Everyone being enthusiastic we started designing the Barbie Cake.

And the time was morning 4:00A.M (ISD). All were so happy because it looked superb. We screamed loudly on our success that mom and grandma came out of their rooms to shout and ask us to go and sleep, 

but after seeing the cake they were num. They told it’s nice and went back to sleep.

The kitchen was so messy; we cleaned everything and decided to go to beach. 8 of us sat in the car and started towards beach. We had fun and had a yummy breakfast at Hotel Saravana Bhavan.

Although there are a lot of flaws on the cake but I am very happy with the end result, the mission has accomplished. What's more, everyone who saw the cake were so impressed and seem unbelievable that I am able to do this cake heeheehee...:-P.

P.S:- A sleepless night of 4 people pays a marvellous price. My niece loved the cake. 

A New Meaning to Live Life!!!!

I’m one of those people who believe everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is clear. At other times you have to search a little harder for the purpose.

High dreams to do something big, to stand on one’s own leg is a dream which ever person has. Even I had the same dream, I wanted to study and get placed in some good company which pays you crazily, so that I can have good amount of fun with Family n friends n most important shop n eat a lot :-P

It was not good option to stay ideal in the house after doing an M.B.A… So I decided to take up 2 months internship in one of the  India's leading consulting company “KPMG”  in the accounts department. The 2 and a half months spent in KPMG, was too good... I loved the job, I learned many new things, and I got good friends. Life was too good. I loved the environment around me.

Where did I start??

Being in house for 10 days after my internship was just boring. I love cooking, so tired my hands on making some or other items.  There was a craze to learn something interesting, so went for cake making classes. Soon After the classes, there was an exhibition kind of thing at my niece school – “Mum’s Bazaar”. We thought of keeping cakes n muffins. We made Cakes, Muffins, and Chocolates. All homemade, they came out so well. Everyone appreciated it. The taste was too good.

 People started asking whether they were ordered from Cake walk or some cake shop. And when we told no, the immediate reply was, do you take order?  

My reply was immediate YES!!!

That was the start towards a new life. I later realised that I forget all my worries while doing a cake. Baking cakes gave me a method to practice my favourite art form (culinary), other people enjoyed it as much as me, and it showed promise to be a viable business.

How did it work for me??

 I explored my interests, developed them, listened to feedback and kept going. Now my career is my former side interest and I love my job. Sure there is pressure, and the hours are very long, but it's manageable. I'm expected to create new recipes, share new tastes and flavour’s, and interact with people - I love that! Once I gave priority to what makes me happy, my life very naturally evolved into Cakes.

How tough is it?
Plain and simple, passion is a commitment without condition. Passion has meant finding me happy baking cakes at 1:30 am  or occasionally smiling while scrubbing cake pans because it means business is still growing. 

Everything about passion can be hard at times. But the benefits and rewards for indulging it simply cannot be measured.
